The Little Things

With finals week here I've been pretty busy! Thought I'd just pop in with a few of my favorite things. I love random trends and I'm not going to lie, I keep wearing them for as long as I can. I'm going to be flaunting these few for as long as I can without feeling too out of date [;

First off is sequins!! How can a girl not love glittery, sparkly sequins? If you need a stand out piece sequins are the answer. They are fabulous on shirts, skirts, shoes and all accessories! I personally love my oversized sequin tanktop.
It's perfect thrown over leggings with a black cardigan and black suede boots. So easy and comfortable, but the sequins  make an unforgettable statement.

Next is feathers! I love them in hair, as earrings even photo printed on shirts. I absolutely love this picture as well, the wind and feather earrings are captured at the most absolutely perfect moment. I personally own several pairs of feather earrings and my favorite is a headband with feathers attached to the bottom that blend in with your hair. I also own a head band with a bejeweled feather on top, it's adds a little bling to anything!

Lastly is mixing soft and edgy. I love the look of lace and leather, spikes and polka dots or soft curls with a studded headband. There's something so eye catching and trendy about mixing textures and playing with opposing styles. It's kind of a surprise and makes you think a little more about the outfit. It's very trendy and a perfect look for a city girl.

Victoria Secret's PINK

Last week one of my favorite nights of the year came, and that was of course the night of the Victoria Secret's 2011-2012 Fashion Show. The models are all so amazingly beautiful and always looking like they're having the time of their lives. The gowns are so extravagant and the accessories they pair with their lingerie seem to come straight from a fairytale. The imagination and creativity that goes into these shows is incredible. My favorite by far though was the Pink Club. Im younger and practically live in pink. The only underwear i have is by Pink and with finals week coming up, good luck getting me out of my sweatpants!

Such a cute combo with the rainbow lettering! If you don't look like this during finals week then your priorities aren't quite straight [;

During the show the girls came out in every shade of neon, sparkles, and outfits that lit up. Some girls had wings, and flashing bras. The underwear was one of my favorites, with quirky sayings and fun colors and patterns. Every girl was dancing, making cute faces at the camera and just reminded me that fashion is about fun and loving what your wearing. It's funny how just wearing my hot pink panties that say "Above Average" on them gives me an extra confidence boost. And the fact that they're coming from a brand that is all about being young and beautiful, can really impact my purchase. Why wouldn't I want a pair of VS underwear over any other kind when they make me feel so confident and all the girls wearing it, are stunning and happy?

I would have to say my favorite thing about PINK is how affordable it is. I always get about 6 pairs of underwear for about $25.00!! Their sweat pants are made so well, and will last you years at only $40.00 a pair. For some of us college students it can seem a little steep, but they have great sales all through december and if you sign up to get E-mails, they have so many promotions. I can never pass up free shipping, or 50% off clearance!

Just a shoutout of love to Pink for making my finals weeks, comfortable yet fashionable <3

Fiercely Real

So lately I've been hitting the gym a lot harder, watching what I eat and just trying to live a healthy lifestyle. I have lost roughly six pounds and my pants are feeling a lot more comfortable then usual. My belt can be pulled through one more hole and I'm loving the feeling of being healthy, but I know that i will personally never look like these models I surround myself with. I am so tuned into the world of fashion all I see are these tall, skinny beautiful girls. That can play a harsh role on my self-esteem, but I don't let it. I know my thighs are always gonna be thick and my stomach will never be flat while my butt will always be wide and perky, but that doesn't stop be from feeling beautiful and it doesn't stop my all time favorite and absolutely beautiful "Fiercely Real" model Whitney Thompson.

The gorgeous Whitney is mostly known for winning Cycle 10 of America's Next Top Model. I was still a "skinny girl" back then and never really thought much about her, but as I matured and started to realize I was a curvy girl too, I really respected what she did. She was the first plus size model to win ANTM and started revolutionizing the way we saw the modeling world. She was even chosen as the 2010 ambassador for the National Eating Disorder Association. Whitney is one of the most well known curvy models and has a very successful career changing the minds of many people, including the teenage girls she talks to about eating disorders. It's ok to be curvy as long as your healthy and feel beautiful! There is no need to use labels such as "fat" and "ugly". Every girl is built differently but we are all beautiful, and don't let anybody tell you otherwise.

LOVE THE SKIN YOUR IN <3

I personally have traveled the roller coaster of trying to find acceptance and making body peace. It takes time and a lot of finding yourself, but once you finally realize your true beauty, you need to own it. Yes, I walk around campus thinking I'm the hottest girl around, I wear my 4 inch heels just for the few extra looks on my way back from the library, but confidence is key. I want to tell every girl out there who has problems with her body, your not alone. I have trouble somedays knowing I cant wear that skin tight top, or that I'll never look like "that girl" but I'm ME, and that's better than anything. Be careful with the magazines and TV shows you surround yourself with, because i know from experience it can hurt more than help. I love the fashion world, and love how beautiful the models are and I respect them for everything they have and do, but I never let it affect how I feel about myself and neither should you.

Lela Rose

I've been watching a lot of fashion shows recently. Just online, studying up on trends and current styles. I first made sure to re-watch some of my favorite designers shows, and Lela Rose has got to be one of my favorites. Her styles are so wearable, with the perfect twist of couture. Her red carpet gowns are to die for and her simple pieces would be perfect for school or work. I went back to her New York Fashion Week show for Spring 2011. Her inspiration was peru and the colors were phenomenal. Not to mention how perfect the styling was. The second I saw the first braid, I went online and looked up a tutorial for a similar braid. I love the boho feel it brought to the show!

This Cardigan is one of my favorite pieces from any Lela Rose collection. Looove <3

I would pretty much kill for that photoprint dress, and I love the geometry of the white blouse.

I continued watching her shows till I came across the New York Fashion Week show for Fall 2011. It was filled with gorgeous dresses, from cocktail to red carpet. She used rich colors like maroon, mustard and deep navy's with great use of feathers and ombre. There was a lot of shimmer and sparkle, which may be why I am obsessed. I loved her black and white prints, since my wardrobe highly consists of shimmery grays and black. The color combinations were a bit unexpected to me, but great inspiration for me to try and be more creative with my colors.

Any designer who can create such a masterpiece, has my heart and soul dedicated to any line they create.

Love the 60's

Recently I came across a movie in my Netflix Called "Love and Other Disasters". It looked cute and I love Brittany Murphy! As I watched, there were several scenes where she and her gay roommate watched "Breakfast at Tiffany's", and I couldn't help but love every single outfit she had on, which had a reference to the 60's movie. The whole style of the two movies really drew me into to my love for 60's glam.

The little black dresses, leopard print, snakeskin heels, sequins, pink overcoats, leggings, and button ups make for the perfect 60's inspired wardrobe. Brittany even pulled off her own version of bangs and high updos. My favorite look from both movies is how effortlessly they wear a simple button up. Both wear it  long enough to reach their mid thighs, paired with tights or leggings. It looks so comfy, and definitely a look I'll be trying out soon for class! They even repeat some scenes, and they look so much alike!

This movie served as a great inspiration for my outfits lately as i broke out my favorite pair of vintage heels for class and church this week (shown below). I've been loving the color palette of light pink, black, lace and off white. It's starting to get cooler, so I can break out the gold studded cardigan, and patterned tights with booties. These movies just really tuned me into 60's fashion and both movies are great overall, very artistic and inspirational for any fashionista! I highly recommend watching both of them before a shopping trip. Your eyes will be opened to a beautiful side of fashion, and a new way of styling. Who knew Vintage could be so much fun?!

This little number is going to be my next 60's inspired purchase. I can't wait! <3

Summer Trends I Can't Let Go

It's been a little while since I've posted! Between, midterms, fall break and Homecoming week I haven't gotten much quality time with my new magazines, recorded Project Runway's and my laptop. I'm finally going to share with you guys my third and final Summer Trend, which I'm still rocking! I tanned by the pool yesterday and it's almost November, gotta love 83 degree weather.

Trend 3- Lightweight Dresses

A dress is not only one of the easiest pieces to add to your day to day life, they are very flattering. It's only one piece so it's quick to pick out, throw on, accessorize and head out the door! They have so many shapes, made for any body type and styles for every personal taste. The perfect piece for the student, working woman and mom! You can pair it with flats, heels, or boots, add a scarf, a jacket, tights or jewelry.

Here are three perfect examples of how to accessorize a dress according to a different tastes, and possible  events they could be going to.

So I did a little shopping around for some great clearance priced dresses, since summer is over but you can always change a summer dress into a perfect fall outfit with a jacket and pair of tights!

With all the different patterns, lengths, sleeve styles, fabrics, and quirks like ruffles, beads, and pockets there is sure to be a perfect dress out there for you. These are mostly casual looks for the busy woman, but never be afraid to glam them up. Accessorizing your dress could be a whole other post but always have fun with it, and do what feels like YOU.

Summer Trends I Can't Let Go

Trend 2- Crop Tops

This new take on the original t-shirt went global this summer. The crop top is so casual, yet it has a stylish spin over the plain Tee. These have fun sayings, sparkles and sequins, stripes, lace and come in every color! They're perfect for a date, a day on the beach or even going out at night. I found myself obsessing over them picking up a new one every time I went shopping. I didn't own a single one this spring, yet by the end of the summer I had collected 6! I wear these constantly, even just to sleep in or to throw over my bikini when going down to the pool.

What a nice way to show off your tan, flat stomach!?

A crop top is the definition of effortless style. You can look cute doing anything now. They're so easy, just wear a colorful sports bra underneath for ultimate comfort and it helps keep ya cool. When I have a day where I know I'll be doing multiple kinds of things without having time to change, I'll automatically pick one of my crops to wear. They're perfect for any occasion and with all the different style's you can't go wrong.

There are multiple sleeve lengths, patterns, saying, and colors you can find one that fits into your life. I personally wear them with a pair of short-shorts or jeans, a sports bra, and sandals. But for those of you whose weather is changing, add a pair of boots, a tank top or a thick scarf with one. The options are endless and I will constantly be wearing my crops throughout the whole year.

Here I'm wearing an American Eagle crop top at my best friends summer party!

Summer Trends I Can't Let Go

Summer has always been my favorite season. I'm a July baby, from Texas so that might have something to do with it! When choosing a college I knew it had to have a warm climate, so I chose to move to St. George, Utah. The average temperature is around ninety degrees and it's almost October. It is fabulous and means I get to keep wearing my favorite summer looks for months longer!

Trend 1- The Summer Scarf

I adore scarves and the fact that they can add to any outfit. Do you need a pop of color? Can't find the right necklace? Or just want to add a little fun to an outfit? A scarf is the perfect thing and they come in so many different prints and colors, while you can wear them so many different ways! My personal favorite is the very layered look, wrapped several times around the neck like Jessica Alba here.

This always looks so effortlessly stylish. It's adds instant flare, and a definition of style to the outfit. This is a great casual, yet chic way to wear a scarf. I loved how fabulous this look was on Kimberly Goldson on this Season of Project Runway, episode 4. She was in the workroom with just her blue blouse, but when she walked into the consultation with Nina Garcia she had thrown on this scarf, and amped up the look!
I also like to just throw one over my shirt, or sometimes tie it once in the front, giving it a tie-like feeling. This works best with a neutral colored outfit, and printed scarf. Let the scarf be the fun part and you'll get a lot of attention the brighter and more unique the pattern is.
Paris is a great example of the look, with this simple outfit and bright scarf!

These are perfect for warm, cold and even in-between weather. I own a lot of scarves and constantly find myself wanting more as they go on sale. They are my go to item to add a little style to a casual outfit and they just make me feel cute! I'll end this trend with an outfit of my own, but there will be more of my favorite summer trends to come!
(I apologize for the cell phone quality, my camera decided to not charge anymore)
Here I'm wearing a white pair of LA Idol shorts, a sequined old navy top and my scarf is from Khols. With the warm weather and a day full of classes I just threw my hair up and put on a simple pair of shorts and a tank. By adding the scarf I completed the outfit with a little bit of flare and it took no effort or time. I'm in class on time, looking fabulous!

The Beginnings of the Fashionista

I've loved fashion since the early days of high school. I loved the feeling of bringing home new bags with shiny items in them. I learned how to put outfits together and started to develop my own personal style. I realized how I was treated differently by the outfits chosen and the way i did my hair and makeup. When i discovered the kind of positive attention being stylish and beautiful brought me, of course I fell in love with fashion. I picked up babysitting and loved the extra cash i had to shop with. It quickly became an obsession as I begged for more closet space and couldn't find a place for all my shoes. I slowly started reading magazines religiously, ripping out my favorite looks to tape all over the walls and always looking for inspiration.
Watching America's Next Top Model, What Not To Wear, The City and Project Runway  became one of my favorite ways to pass the time as i learned as much about fit and personal  style as I could. Tyra Banks, Stacey London, Whitney Port and Heidi Klum will always be some of my top role models since they helped develop my eye for style and love for fashion. I realized how amazing their lives are, that they get to surround themselves in the wonderful world of the fashion industry every day as their job! I know that's what i want for my future and am currently studying fashion marketing and plan to get involved in the industry as soon as the opportunity comes. Overall I'm excited to use this blog to document my shopping occurrences, daily experiences and opinions about anything and everything that has to do with fashion!
